Much-loved Big Issue vendor David Stone has died

The Bath seller died aged 59 in late September following a battle with cancer

Dave Stone

We are saddened to announce that popular Big Issue vendor David Stone has died following a battle with cancer.

Known as Dave to his regular customers, the 59-year-old sold the magazine for a decade outside Waitrose in Bath.

He was treated at Royal United Hospitals in Bath but died in late September. Dave’s funeral will be held at Haycombe Crematorium with the date to be confirmed.

While his health limited him to selling only a couple of days a week, he was known for his “dry sense of humour” and also for his devotion to supporting Walsall Football Club.

Geo Leonard, The Big Issue’s Bath and Bristol service broker, said: “Dave will be remembered by us in the office as a lovely man who had experienced a lot of different things in life and worked around the world.

“He had a wonderful dry sense of humour which he used to make his points well. His favourite part of selling The Big Issue was the connection he made with his customers and community. “
