Social media reacts as Liz Truss claims she was 'brought down by the left-wing economic establishment'

Liz Truss has written a rather long essay claiming she was brought down by the left-wing economic establishment. Here's what Twitter had to say in reaction

So, Liz Truss has written a hefty 4000-word essay in the Sunday Telegraph claiming she was “brought down by the left-wing economic establishment”. Right.

You know, not that a disastrous economic policy (which cost the UK £30billion in a cost of living crisis, by the way) had anything to with it.

Truss and former chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng’s mini-budget in September crashed the markets and led the pound to hit an all-time low against the dollar. It had contained £45bn in tax cuts.

It’s not exactly surprising that social media had quite a lot to say about the attempts of our former prime minister’s to redeem her name… especially in the same week it’s rumoured she wants to make a comeback to frontline politics.

She wrote: “I am not claiming to be blameless in what happened, but fundamentally I was not given a realistic chance to enact my policies by a very powerful economic establishment, coupled with a lack of political support.”

From dogs who destroyed their owners’ living rooms claiming they too were brought down by the left-wing economic establishment, to parody MPs lauding Truss for saying she was betrayed by tofu-stained bankers, the comedians of social media had a field day.

We rounded up some of the funniest memes which circulated across Twitter in the aftermath of the piece. Because, sometimes, you can’t help but laugh at the circus of politics in the UK.

Oops.

We’ve all been there…

Has anyone checked in on the lettuce?

Ah, there it is.

Checks out.

Would I lie to you?

Can someone explain this… please?

Is the left-wing economic establishment in the room with you now?

Or this one?
